Ingredients
1 egg1 cup buttermilk
2 tsp shortening, melted or salad oil
1 cup flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
Directions
- Beat egg; add remaining ingredients and beat until smooth with beaters.
- Grease heated griddle.
- Pour batter from tip of large spoon or small measuring cup onto hot griddle.
- Turn pancakes as soon as they are puffed and full of bubbles.
- Turn over and bake other side until golden brown.
Note
To test if griddle is ready, sprinkle a few drops of water onto griddle. If they dance, griddle is hot enough.
